Volunteer

At MusicWorks Asheville we are always looking for energetic, kind volunteers to work with our students.  Below are some ways you could help.  Please submit the form below or contact us at info@musicworksasheville.org if you are interested!

There are some truly amazing folks here and it’s fun to be a part of it. It is rewarding to see the progress the kids make and it gives you a sense of helping out in the community.
— Robert, volunteer at MusicWorks

Volunteer Opportunities Include:

Homework Assistance

Monday through Thursday all of our students spend time in MusicWorks completing their homework assignments for that day.  Our goal is to send each student home with complete and checked homework every single day.  To make that happen, we need volunteers!  A student may require help with reading, spelling, or math.  The best way to help is to give a little assistance and then encouragement.  If at any time the students are working on something that you are unsure of how to help with there is always an Academic Specialist on hand.

Music Class Assistance

All of our students spend time in two music classes every afternoon.  Subjects include: chorus, violin, cello, percussion, bucket band, and orchestra. An effective volunteer in this area does not need to be a musician themselves!  Teaching artists will direct the class and just having another adult available to encourage, lend a hand, or model proper behavior is really helpful.

Practice Buddies

MusicWorks students learn how to play a variety of instruments. Each student learns and progresses at a different rate and having an adult that the student can play for one-on-one builds confidence.  An effective volunteer in this area does not need to be a musician themselves!  The child will demonstrate their skills and the volunteer will listen, offering praise and encouragement.  This position is best for a volunteer who plans to offer regular time to MusicWorks as seeing the children grow will allow for a true relationship to blossom.

Kindergarten Assistance

Kindergarten is where students explore all of the instruments, begin to learn rhythm and note reading, and complete homework from the school day and have time to play.  Volunteers are always well-loved by these students who need individual help with homework and love showing off their new skills.

It Means So Much

"Volunteering at MusicWorks means so much to me! Every week, when I come in, I am always greeted with hugs and smiling faces. For me, it is really special knowing I can have a small impact on the kids."
